The Hackney Wick study area is at the south and east of the Hackney Marshes. Infrastructure arrangements of roads (A12 road and East Cross route), waterways (Lee Navigation, Hertford Union Canal), railways and location on the edge of the planned 2012 Olympic Park result in this traditionally industrial zone’s isolation from the surrounding neighbourhoods. Arena Field will be lost temporarily to the Olympic development, leaving part of the Mabley Green as the only open space. The Wick’s residential building stock has been partially replaced from post World War II prefabs and 1980s tower blocks.
